Andre Tellier was born in Winnipeg and began playing Drums at age 11. He studied the rudiments of music, drumming and singing while performing with the Ness Junior High Concert Band and Theatre Production Band. As a student he also performed and toured in Minnesota and Western Canada with the John Taylor Collegiate Jazz Band. Andre quickly became known as a skilled percussionist and as a result started teaching drums while still in High School.
Since then, Andre has toured Canada, the United States, Europe, and the Carribean with great artists including: Eddie Holman,The Platters, Wild T and the Spirit, Michael Fonfara and many more. He has also recorded albums as well as live CBC radio and television broadcasts with Ben Sures and The "Ooh Wah Baby Band", Swing Manouche, Nicky Mehta [The Wailin' Jennys] and three albums with Ginger St. James and The Grinders.
André received the Taye Drum award for outstanding achievement while earning his music diploma for jazz performance at Humber College. André currently performs and records with the amazing Ginger St. James and The Grinders and is busy in the studio with soundtrack, commercial, and a wide variety of sessions. André is known for his dynamic musical feel and his impeccable grooves, percussion work and precision vocal harmony skill.
Aside from being a successful performer, Andre is also a devoted teacher with 30 years of teaching experience who emphasises the importance of rudimental drumming, proper technique at the drumset, rhythm reading and sight singing skills, the importance of good musicianship and ensemble playing often playing guitar and singing along with his drum students. Andre looks forward to sharing his knowledge and appreciation for music with students of all ages and musical backgrounds
